The 3rd edition of the Foothills Festival will be conducted from 16-18th January 2020. The main objectives of the festival are (1) to encourage farmers to optimize the agricultural potential of the Dzongkhag and to curb importation of agriculture products (by local consumers) which could be domestically grown and supplied by our farmers; (2) to showcase diversity of the Dzongkhag’s culture through performance of various cultural programs and (3) to promote Sarpang Dzongkhag as a hub for sporting events in the country.
During the three-day festival, thatch-roofed stalls in the ground will not only give visitors opportunities to buy organic agricultural produces (such as rice and different kinds of freshly plucked green vegetables) and livestock products, but one will also get to have a wonderful taste of the unique local cuisines and the experiences of rural homes. Moreover various sporting events and fun activities will punctuate the day’s program that will bring about laughter for visitors, irrespective of their age and status. Sarpang district as a home to people from different parts of the country some of who have made their way here through government resettlement programs and some through their own choices, cultural programs not limited to Boedra and Zhungdra but depicting varied societal backgrounds will be showcased both by public as well as interested groups exemplifying the rich cultural diversity of this Dzongkhag.
Bringing their products and services to the doorsteps, the private entrepreneurs, corporate entities such as FMCL, BLDCL, etc and other stakeholders are also participating in the festival selling their own agricultural related products and services besides creating awareness on modern agricultural technologies.
