Shompangkha

Shompangkha Gewog is one of the administrative gewogs under Sarpang Dzongkhag, located near the border of Gelephu Thromde. Strategically positioned along the vital Gelephu–Zhemgang highway, it serves as a semi-urban gewog with both rural villages and growing peri-urban areas. The gewog comprises several chiwogs, with settlements spread across gentle foothills and fertile plains, making it suitable for agriculture, especially paddy, vegetables, and citrus fruits. Its proximity to Gelephu town also provides the local community access to urban facilities and markets.

Brief Background of the Gewog:

Over the years, Shompangkha has witnessed notable developmental progress, including improved road networks, electricity, and drinking water supply. The gewog has access to education and health services, with primary schools and a Basic Health Unit (BHU) catering to the residents. Local governance is actively involved in enhancing infrastructure, promoting sustainable farming, and encouraging youth participation. Due to its location and connectivity, Shompangkha also sees small-scale businesses emerging, contributing to the gewog’s socio-economic development.
