Beautification
Sarpang Dzongkhag Beautification Initiative is part of the broader national effort to enhance environmental aesthetics, promote eco-tourism, and improve the quality of life for residents. The dzongkhag administration has been actively engaged in greening urban and rural spaces, particularly in areas like Gelephu, which serves as the commercial hub of the region. Beautification works include plantation of ornamental trees and flowering plants along roadsides, maintenance of public parks, development of open green spaces, and installation of decorative streetlights and waste bins to ensure cleanliness and visual appeal.
Background
Additionally, the dzongkhag emphasizes community participation through programs like Clean Bhutan campaigns, school-based greening activities, and collaboration with local businesses and institutions. Priority is also given to preserving the natural landscape and integrating sustainable practices, such as using eco-friendly materials and promoting native plant species. These efforts not only enhance the appearance of towns and settlements but also contribute to environmental conservation, public health, and tourism development in Sarpang Dzongkhag.
Mandates
- Develop an overall beautification plan and strategy for the Dzongkhag/Gewogs.
- Create awareness on His Majesty’s Vision of Clean, Safe, Organized and Beautiful Community for National Integrity, National Pride and for our bright future.
- Mobilize resources for beautification programmes through annual work planning and project proposals.
- Establish a floriculture nursery for sustainable maintenance of gardens/parks/avenues.
- Coordinate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders in planning, designing, and implementation of beautification activities, and for exchange of germplasm, inputs, technical information, expertise and capacity building.
- Be involved in the planning and designing of Dzongkhag/Gewog development works (buildings, city parks, streets, pavements, sidewalks, plantations) and accordingly provide creative advice and design solutions.
- Promote and facilitate floriculture enterprises in the Dzongkhag.
- Identify, coordinate and facilitate establishment of Micro Parks in the Dzongkhag/Gewogs.
- Coordinate beautification and floral displays during national and local events.
