Agriculture

Agriculture is the backbone of Sarpang Dzongkhag’s economy, with a majority of the population engaged in farming and livestock rearing. The dzongkhag’s diverse agro-climatic zones—ranging from subtropical lowlands to temperate uplands—allow for the cultivation of a wide variety of crops, including paddy, maize, vegetables, and fruits like bananas, oranges, and pineapples. Sarpang is also one of the major rice-producing districts in southern Bhutan. The agriculture sector contributes significantly to food security, income generation, and employment for rural communities.
