Agriculture Minister visits Sarpang Dzongkhag |

A team of senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture led by His Excellency, the Minister for Agriculture visited Sarpang Dzongkhag from 4th - 5th September 2008. The main objectives of the visit were:
1. To review and assess the situation of Human-Elephant Conflicts, especially pertaining to the crop and other properties damaged by wild elephants; 2. To review the on-going and proposed project activities, particularly of livestock (such as piggery and poultry) production programs; 3. To review the intensive rice production program in the Southern belt; 4. To review and assess the on-going and proposed community forestry programs and other rural development initiatives; and 5. To review the on-going animal and plant quarantine program including infrastructures.
This report will briefly highlight the visits and the meetings made by the Honorable Lyonpo and the team during the two day tour programme.
Day 1(4th September, 2008)
Honorable Lyonpo and the team visited and met with the following:
1. The public of Sompangkha Geog; 2. Pakhey-Tinjurey Farm Road; 3. Research Sub-Centre, Druk Seed Corporation and Regional Agriculture Machinery Centre, at Bhur; 4. Plant and Animal Quarantine Station at Gelephu; 5. Fishery and Piggery at Gelephu; 6. Offices of FMNP and Forest Range at Gelephu; 7. Reception by Dasho Dungpa and other regional heads and RNR staff at Guest House, Gelephu. In the evening Lyonpo met with the RNR staff at GSA Hall in Gelephu.
Day 2 (5th September, 2008)
On the second day, Honorable Lyonpo and the team visited the following:
1. Milk booth at Gelephu; 2. Milk booth at Sarpang Market; 3. Poultry Hatchery Farm Construction Site at Hilley; 4. Senghe Geog, where the Honorable Lyonpo and the team visited Deorali and Thoemba villages. The team also met with the public of Senghe Geog at Thoemba. In all the meetings, Honorable Lyonpo briefed on the plans and priorities of DPT Government. In particular, Lyonpo and the heads of the Departments and Agencies briefed about the 10th Five Year Plans and programs of the Ministry of Agriculture. The emphasis was made on the strategies and plans of mitigating Human- Elephant Conflicts in the country. His Excellency, the minister for Agriculture and the team left Sarpang, for Thimphu on 6th September, 2008. |
