Jigmecholing gewog is located towards north of Sarpang Dzongkhag (33 KM from Gelephu Town) with an area covering about 492 square kilometers and is one of the largest Gewog in the Dzongkhag. The altitude of the Gewog ranges from 1200 - 1500 meters above sea level. Earlier the name of the Jigmecholing Gewog was called as Surey. The gewog constitutes of 28 villages with six chiwogs, 686 households (old settler- 672 & re-settler – 14) and population of 5539. The gewog has two CPS, one Extended Class Room and one NFE Centers. The health facilities include two BHU, two ORC and 3 trained Village Health Workers. The Gewog has one RNR Center, one Gewog farm shop, CIC, one Beat Office and four Community Forest. The Gewog has four Lhakhangs, seven Chortens, two Hindu Mandir and one Dratshang.
The Gewog administration office and the RNR Center are located at Khatoe (Sirangaon) Chiwog just above the Gelephu – Zhemgang high way road. Other transportion and communication facilities in the Gewog includes 4 suspension bridges and B-mobile and T-cell network covering all Chiwogs. Some parts of the villages are not electrified and they use solar light. For about 90% of the villages have access to safe drinking water. The people of the Gewog mainly depend upon agriculture and livestock products. The main food crops grown are rice and maize. The main cash crop is orange, and now most of the farmers started growing cardamom as cash crop too. The prominent species of cattle in the villages are local.
